Year 3 and 4 Bikeability course

There was lots of excitement as Rye’s Year 3 and Year 4 took part in their Level 1 Bikeability course.

They started their course by ensuring their helmet was fitting correctly and learnt how to adjust the straps. They then learnt how to ensure their bikes are ready to be ridden by checking their breaks, tyres, chain, spokes, pedals and handlebars. The children learnt how to get on and off their bikes safely so that they are not standing in the road.

Once on their bikes, Year 3 and Year 4 learnt how to glide in a smooth, calm manner ensuring they are looking forwards. They learnt how to set off on their bike by ensuring their pedal is at 2 o’clock, how to cruise, slow down, break and stop.

They then progressed on to looking behind them, turning around obstacles and pedalling one handed.
