Netball Quad Series! A Trip to Remember…

This week on Wednesday, pupils from Years 7-12 had the opportunity to watch some of the best athletes in netball compete in the international quad series. Held at the Copper Box Arena in the Olympic park, we saw the biggest rivalries in netball battle it out. The day consisted of watching the 3rd place playoff, South Africa versus New Zealand, which saw New Zealand snatch the game by 1 goal. The main event however, saw England and Australia fight to win the series.

The two teams had played on Wednesday, drawing 48 all after an incredibly tense match. The England Roses could go into Thursday with the encouragement of knowing they could fight back after trailing Australia the day before. The final included 60 minutes of extraordinary athletic ability, competitiveness and passion. The arena was filled with deafening noise and support from the Roses throughout, creating an unforgettable atmosphere.

The Roses held a one-goal lead after the third quarter but conceded 18 goals in 15 minutes, leading Australia to take the series win. While the end result was disappointing, the trip provided an inspiring opportunity to witness and learn from some of the best athletes in the world. The event also spurred excitement for the upcoming Commonwealth Games, which are being held this summer in Birmingham.
