Library

Positioned at the centre of our school, King’s Library is a vibrant space of learning and discovery for pupils of all ages. The space houses thousands of books, magazines and materials of both fictional and non-fictional nature. In short, there is something for everyone. Many workshops with visiting authors, academic challenges, as well as local and regional competitions are held at the Library.

Our library is a centre of wellbeing during exam times for all pupils. It’s a place where everyone is welcome to recharge and refocus.

Accelerated Reader

The Accelerated Reader Programme gives our pupils in Years 4-9 the chance to improve their reading skills. It promotes reading for pleasure and provides an individually tailored programme to support the child’s reading habits and enhance their ability. This programme is facilitated by King’s Library.

I have to say it took me a while to become an avid reader. I have dyslexia, but once I mastered the power of reading, I never stopped. Stories have always been fascinating to me and I now couldn’t imagine a world without them. My favourite book changes on an almost daily basis – however, top of my list is ‘When Marnie was There’ by Joan G. Robinson.

I first joined Rye as a Sixth Form pupil in 2015, but came back as the Assistant Librarian in February 2019. I am also currently working for a BA (Hons) Degree in English Literature and Drama at Oxford Brookes University, and work at Rye alongside my studies.

While I was a student at Rye I loved the library, with its rich variety of activities and welcoming, supportive atmosphere. I am very happy to be back and helping to make it a supportive and happy place for current and future students. I know from personal experience that the library is a brilliant place to study as well as being a haven for reading a good book!
