Rye raises over £30,000 for the Harefield Transplant Appeal

Rye St Antony is thrilled to announce that the Challenge 2019 15-4-15 Campaign has exceeded the fundraising target. The fundraising campaign was launched in April in memory of former pupil Rebecca Henderson to raise funds for the Royal Brompton & Harefield Hospitals Charity’s Transplant Appeal. Rye set a challenge to the school community to raise £15,000, and in June 300 pupils and staff completed a 15km circular walk, from Headington to Beckley raising funds through sponsorship.

Incredibly through the generosity of match funding by the wider community, suppliers and alumni, Rye has exceeded the ultimate target by raising over £30,000, which will enable the charity to buy one Organ Care System kit.

Linda Henderson, Rebecca’s mother said “An enormous thank you to everyone who has been involved. This could not have been achieved without the support of all staff, pupils and parents. Becca will be looking down at everyone and she will have the biggest smile on her face.

It is 30 weeks ago today that she had her transplant. Before the surgery she said that if she didn’t make it she wanted to help the next person in her situation. Rye has helped to fulfil this wish and we could not ask for more.”

Headmistress Sarah Ryan said “Rebecca’s indefatigable energy, her passion for life and for helping others has spurred us on to this achievement. We are so proud to support the life-saving work of this wonderful charity, raising awareness of the importance of organ donation. Our pupils, parents and wider community have shown extraordinary commitment and enthusiasm – it is wonderful to see what we can achieve together to continue Rebecca’s legacy.”
