ost girls learn
one musical instrument and some learn two or more. Oxford
provides first class instrumental teachers, and instruments
learnt include piano, violin, viola, 'cello, flute, oboe,
clarinet, trumpet, bassoon, saxophone, French horn, guitar
and percussion. Through musical productions, concerts
and the liturgy, there are many opportunities for girls
to contribute to the musical life of the School.
Musical productions are staged regularly in conjunction
with the drama department. In both drama and music, pupils
prepare for the Guildhall Music and Drama examinations.
The School has three school orchestras and four school
choirs. Girls also play in local orchestras, for example,
the Oxford Schools' Orchestra, Oxford Schools' Senior
Orchestra, the Oxfordshire County Youth Orchestra and
the Thames Vale Youth Orchestra.
Singers can join local choirs, for example, the Oxford
Girls' Choir, the Hildegard Choir, the Oxford Youth Chamber
Choir and the Oxfordshire County Youth Choir.
