Museum Visits photo

Monday 8th February 2010

On Thursday Year 12 and 13 art and textile pupils ventured into Oxford to visit Pitt Rivers Museum and the Ashmolean Museum so they could look at artefacts and artwork to help inspire ideas for their examination themes, the theme for Year 12 being Rhythms and Cycles, and for Year 13, Passions and Obsessions. The girls were fully engaged throughout the day and produced some excellent work.

Pitt Rivers Museum houses collections of objects from many cultures past and present, the objects being grouped according to how they were made or used, rather than by cultural origin or age.

The Ashmolean has a wide collection of objects on display; some connected to famous people, such as a pair of boots worn by Queen Elizabeth 1 or the lantern used by Guy Fawkes. The variety of exhibits includes artefacts, fashion and textiles, pottery and paintings, to name but a few.
