Cooking with Art photo

Wednesday 3rd February 2010

Today the Art and Home Economics Department took assembly for Years 7 – 13. When we first found out that we were due to take assembly our minds were blank as to how to link art with cooking! But it soon became obvious - cooking is an art! The British Photographer Carl Warner created a series of landscape images utilising basic food ingredients found in a typical kitchen. The images, ‘foodscapes’ (made up of the words food and landscapes), show scenes including caverns, submarines, forests, and beaches using fruits, legumes, cheeses, pastas and breads among other things.

The year groups were put into their houses: Binsey, Stonor, Hendred and Holywell, so that they could create their own ‘foodart’ using the template for the Rye emblem. What a huge success! All the girls were involved and the results were amazing. The Art and Home Economics Department would like to thank the girls for all their efforts today.
