Music at Rye aims to be accessible and fun, whether it be the in-depth academic study of A Level and ABRSM examinations, or simply meeting up with friends for a jam session. As well as studying music within the main curriculum, pupils enjoy the many extra-curricular groups and clubs which perform regularly. These include two junior school choirs and a Junior Instrumental Ensemble, a Year 7/8 Choir, a Senior Choir and Chorale, Senior Orchestra, two Jazz ensembles and several smaller ensembles, in particular the King Quartet and the Year 10 Quintet.
Pupil-led performing groups are also popular, and in recent years these have included a rock band and a Year 9 vocal group, as well as other groups that evolve to perform in the various concerts that showcase the Department’s work throughout the year.
