For pupils the internet is often the first port of call for facts and information, yet when they reach university, they will be expected to undertake extensive reading programmes from day one. The School Library works hard to help pupils bridge that gap by:
- providing colourful up-to-date material on curriculum subjects from Year 7 to A Level
- developing independent research skills
- building a varied range of fiction, non-fiction, revision guides, life-skills and careers books
- encouraging reading for pleasure: the Reading Group meets frequently to discuss favourite books and to ‘shadow’ the Carnegie Award
- listening to pupils views and requests through a lively Library Committee
- arranging an annual Open Day and Book Sale, celebrating World Book Day and organising an annual Writing Competition
We offer:
- 15,000 books
- daily newspapers plus magazines eg New Scientist, The Week, and National Geographic
- 32 study places
- separate study room for Sixth Form
- computers with internet access
- scanner, printer and points for laptops
Library opening hours:
Weekdays: 8.30 am – 7.00 pm
Saturday: 8.30 am – 12.30 pm
Our aim is to provide a service that supports pupils in their learning and personal development and to encourage them to gain the habit of reading and a love of books.
