Small classes in the Junior School enable pupils of all academic abilities to develop at their own pace and reach their full potential. Ofsted’s most recent report judged the quality of Early Years education to be ‘outstanding’ in all areas. From the Nursery School there is a smooth transition to the Reception Class, and from there to Key Stage One, Two and beyond.

Visitors to the Junior School regularly comment on the positive nurturing atmosphere, and our teachers firmly believe that children thrive when they feel secure and valued within a lively, child-centred environment. Central to Rye’s philosophy is the commitment to giving challenge and freedom to those who achieve easily, supporting and giving confidence to those who find learning difficult, and steadily raising the achievements and expectations of all.

Our pupils enjoy learning through experience. Science is hands-on and experimental, Rye being exceptionally well provided with high specification indoor facilities as well as the outdoor learning environment of the School’s beautiful wooded grounds. Pupils enjoy a wide range of physical activities in Rye’s first-class sports centre and its outdoor courts and playing fields. Creativity and imagination are encouraged in all areas, and art, music and drama play an important part in each week’s programme. We welcome children’s authors, illustrators and poets to our special activity days, and we make frequent visits to places of interest in Oxford and further afield.

We are proud of our provision for before-school and after-school care and the wide range of interesting clubs and activities in our highly popular extra-curricular programme.
